CANVIJ Neonatal Services & Pediatrics


A tertiary-level perinatal center delivering comprehensive care for both high- and low-risk neonates. The department includes a 14-bed Level III NICU, Perinatal Ward, and Neonatal Outpatient Services, providing a compassionate, individualized healing environment for inborn and ex-utero transfer babies.

Leadership & Team
Directed by Dr. Tiroumourougane Serane V., MBBS, MD, DNB, MNAMS, MRCPCH (London), supported by a team of expert neonatologists and pediatricians, including consultants and visiting specialists.

  • 98% survival rate for babies >28 weeks

  • <1% incidence of healthcare-associated infections

  • Over 3,000 surfactant therapies administered for respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)

  • 96% intact survival for extreme preterms

  • Excellent outcomes in managing meconium aspiration syndrome using non-invasive ventilation

 

Training
Offers DCH (Diplomate of National Board) course with two approved seats by the National Board of Examinations.

Regional Impact
Serves as a regional referral center, managing around 200 neonates annually from Puducherry and neighboring Tamil Nadu districts.

Specialized Services

  • Non-invasive ventilation (CPAP, HHHFNC) and mechanical ventilation including HFOV

  • Surfactant therapy, hemodynamic monitoring, central line catheterization

  • Whole-body cooling, intensive phototherapy

  • Bedside radiology including POCUS, X-ray, echocardiography, and ultrasonography

  • Newborn screening and prematurity screening for retinopathy of prematurity and metabolic disorders

  • Parenteral nutrition, peritoneal dialysis

  • Specialized procedures: balloon atrial septostomy, exchange transfusion

  • Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA)

  • Lactation support and vaccinations

  • High-risk newborn follow-up programs
