• Graduated in Medicine and obtained post graduate degree in General Surgery from Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Pondicherry.

• Completed Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery training and M.Ch (CVTS) from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh in 1986.

• Professional experience scans over a period of 26 years from 1980, and over 23 years in the field of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Performed more than 1000 closed mitral valvtomies, 400 PDAs, and more than with more than 3000 open heart surgeries such as ASD, VSD, Complex congenitals, Valve repairs, replacements, CABG and others. The surgeries include hypertensive ductus arteriosus, poor left ventricles, Senning, Arterial switch, dextrocardia with complex congenital heart diseases, multiple myxomas, RSOVs, aorto cameral fistulas, ALCAPAs etc. He has done extensive work in cardiac surgery in pregnancy.

• In Thoracic surgery, he has performed enormous number of lung resections, decortications, thoracoplasties, hydatid cyst removals, open lung biopsies etc. He has a good collection of diaphragmatic eventration, congenital lobar emphysema, traumatic diaphragmatic hernias, etc.

• In the field of endoscopy, he has done more than 8,000 fiberoptic bronchoscpies- diagnostic and therapeutic, and more than 3000 rigid bronchoscopies apart from rigid and flexible esophagoscopies. Tracheo bronchial Foreign body removal in children is one of his specialties.

• He has developed newer techniques in surgeries and exposures and practicing, especially in the field of minimally invasive approaches to cardiac and lung surgeries. A few of them being mini transaxillary approach for PDA, Transaxillary approach for lung resections and other thoracic operations, submammary approach for open heart surgery and mini-partial sternotomy approaches for open heart surgeries.


• He was the first cardiothoracic surgeon to develop extensively the FNAC for intra thoracic lesions in India. Pectoralils Major Myocutaneous Island Flap repair of non-passable stricture of the cricopharyngeus was developed by him to make a small group of people to swallow food normally otherwise a discarded lot.

• He was also instrumental in setting up the open heart surgical programme at JIPMER. He has also performed one of the highest number of epicardial pacemakers implantation in the country.

• He has to his credit more than 60 publications in National and International journals. He has trained more than 20 MCh students who are spread over India and abroad.

• He was awarded the Commonwealth Medical Fellowship in United Kingdom for one year for intensive hands-on training on Surgery for Congenital heart diseases, at the prestigious Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham and worked with Mr B Sethia and Mr WJ Brawn, renowned pediatric cardiac surgeons. He was trained in neonatal and complex congenital cardiac work there.

• At AG Padmavati’s hospital in a short period he has performed more than 275 surgeries which includes, CABGs, Congenital heart surgeries like PDA, VSD, TOF, CTGA, DORV, Valve replacements, Closed Mitral valvotomies, Lung resections, Thoracic tumors, Esophageal Surgery, etc.
